BSTS

BSTS is a fantastic place. All the people that help and work there are always happy.

What they do is take the eggs off the beach when the mother has laid them. Then they go back to the hatchery and dig a hole that looks exactly like the one the mother dug. Then they put all of the eggs into the hole the same way up the mother laid them. 45-60 days later the eggs will hatch.

They put all of the turtles into a big round bucket with some sand for the night. The next afternoon they will put all of the baby turtles into another big bucket filled with sea water. People go down to BSTS late after noon to get a ticket, then early evening people with tickets will gather round the hatchery and get a pot with a baby turtle in it (check the BSTS Facebook page for more precise timings). if you do not get a turtle you can o and watch anyway on the sides, it will be clear were to stand. Very soon after, everyone will follow the person with a flag down to the beach. Everyone forms a big line and crouches down and tips the baby turtle out of their pot VERY gently. It's a baby turtle race, whoever wins gets a small prize such as a keying.

I really like the way BSTS are doing it. I've been to quite a few places where they've been trying to help the turtles but I don't think anywhere does it as good as they do. I think they do it well because they give a lot of information and keep everything as close to the nature as possible.
